About This Spot

Pulling up to El Taconazo, a vibrant food truck tucked on Fulton Street, you immediately step into a world that hums with authentic simplicity and earnest passion for Mexican flavors. This is no polished sit-down joint, but rather a lively neighborhood spot where the pace slows just enough to savor every bite, even if that means enjoying your meal from the passenger seat of your car. The air is filled with the rich aroma of spices and grilled meats that invite you to lean in close and listen for the sizzle behind the scenes.

Behind the counter, the rhythm of preparation is steady and focused, revealing a dedication to well-seasoned, carefully crafted tacos that speak to deep-rooted tradition. It’s a place where beef—and notably lengua—take center stage, showcasing cuts that carry both tenderness and bold seasoning, all wrapped in warm tortillas made just a step away. The straightforward menu tells a story of specialization rather than variety, inviting visitors to truly explore the nuances in texture and flavor, bite by bite.

While there’s no formal dining room or cushy seats, what El Taconazo offers instead is a collective moment of discovery shared with neighbors and fellow taco lovers. The salsas bring a lively spark without overwhelming, and the accompanying charro beans offer a humble but satisfying complement. It’s a spot where value meets heart, where a quick stop becomes a pause to connect—not just with food, but with a local tradition kept alive by those who care deeply about every taco they serve.

The occasional line and the steady hum of orders unfold with a patient, unpretentious energy. Here, you’re invited to celebrate the beauty of simple treats made with care—an experience not about luxury, but about honoring the everyday joy of authentic Mexican street food in the heart of Houston.

Very flavorful and well seasoned steak tacos. They only have beef - fajita or tongue for meat options. The tacos are cheap and delicious. I noticed a lot of people ordering the plate which I’ll have to try next time. They also have agua frescas and yes they’re cash only.

The food truck was amazing! Overall, everything was great. I wasn’t a big fan of the fajita but the tacos de lengua were incredible — and I’m not even a lengua fan! The tacos de barbacoa and the salsa were also delicious. I do wish they had homemade tortillas and a better dining experience, because there’s nowhere to sit. We had to eat in the car, which wasn’t ideal. But the food itself was definitely worth it!

The good - Service was good. The guys were prompt, efficient and friendly. The meats were well seasoned and tender, the lengua especially. Not so good - Selection is pretty narrow, only a few items and not a very wide meat selection, no chicken for instance, also the tacos and quesadillas are about the same size. Also the tacos don't come with some extras you might expect. More traditional? Maybe? But mentioning this so you're not disappointed. The green hot sauce is more like an avocado sauce, not spicy, but quite delicious. The red hot sauce isn't super hot, but quite good. Overall, not a bad place to stop by. More variety might be better, but there's something to be said for sticking to what you know.

El Taconaso as excellent food, highly recommended. The place is always packed, and they take one order at a time, which makes service very slow. Better management could improve the experience and their business significantly.

Some of the best tacos in all of Houston. Value for the money spent is great. The tacos are full of flavor, perfect moisture and not dry. The salsa was spicy but not so spicy that it overpowers the flavor of the meat. I would definitely go back if I find myself in that area.

Delicious tacos at a justifiable price. All meats were great. Fast moving service. Definitely worth the stop if around Houston. Take out only. Street parking only.
